By Pain and optimism are what this image makes me think of. This photograph was
recently shot during a campaign event for a particular party’s presidential candidate in
Nigeria. The adolescent ran straight up to the candidate and embraced him and tell him
how prepared he is to accept him as the president of Nigeria.
Nigeria has had unscrupulous presidents in the past and present who make unmet
campaign promises and plunge the country into a state of extreme poverty,
deprivation, and instability. However, the politicians’ lack of effectiveness has only
caused the country to feel embarrassed and forlorn hence, in a state of lawlessness.
This image makes me think of the idea that a new leadership style should focus on
ushering in a new era. A new phase and hope will be restored, and Nigeria will once
again become the giant of Africa for the youth who had lost all hope.
